Mathieu Farcy
Photographer Mathieu Farcy met patients whose faces had to be reconstructed following illness or accident. He worked with these people for five years. Each of them experienced the disappearance of a familiar face differently, entering a labyrinth of uncertainty. This project was born out of a desire for collaborative creation.
How can one convey a trauma as great as the loss of one’s own face? How can one create a form from feelings and dream experiences?
Philippe, Samia, Anna, Béatrice, and Xavier had no preconceived ideas about what they wanted to create, but they all felt the need to elaborate and create something based on their unique experiences. Sculptures, installations, writings, photographs—all of the works, images, and texts are co-creations, conceived by several people. Their stories intertwine and collide. Handwritten notes from Mathieu Farcy’s workbook, excerpts from conversations and reflections, punctuate the book. The pages fold and unfold, revealing and/or concealing each person’s wounds…
