From the Occupy and Maidan movements in historic city squares around the world to the Yellow Vest occupation of roundabouts in France, from the welcoming of migrants in Calais to the fight against substandard housing in Marseille, a single democratic aspiration finds its expression in public space. Artists, designers, architects, urban planners, geographers, sociologists, and philosophers—the authors gathered in this book—defend this shared conviction: far from being in crisis, contemporary public space is, on the contrary, demonstrating great vitality.
