Mioveni is a city in Romania located between Bucharest and the Carpathian Mountains. After the fall of communism, the city was able to survive thanks to the automotive industry. Today, all of its inhabitants live according to the rhythm of the factory. For nearly three years, photographer Anne Leroy and journalist Julia Beurq accompanied the daily lives of Mioveni’s inhabitants, bringing back images and stories that immerse the reader in the intimacy of working-class life.
This book recounts their immersion in this working-class city which, with the takeover of Dacia by Renault fifteen years ago, seems to have escaped the fate of other single-industry towns that fell into ruin after the fall of communism.
