At first glance, the landscape of the \u00cele-de-France region, characterized by its great heterogeneity and lacking both mountains and sea, seems to turn its back on the grand landscapes we so cherish. The often overlooked richness of the \u00cele-de-France landscapes appears buried beneath our habits: daily commutes, Sunday strolls, and rapid travel. Yet, lakes, ancient forests, streams and rivers, fields stretching as far as the eye can see, and bucolic landscapes reveal themselves to us if we take the time to look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, nearly 500 landscapes, akin to historical monuments and officially listed, are protected for their heritage value. From parks and gardens to large estates, from forests to industrial landscapes, from the banks of the Seine to still-cultivated fields, the landscape spreads, much like the urbanization it encounters. It is primarily through the lens of these transformations that the photographers of the Inventory were the first to engage with the landscape.
