Discourse on the Window corresponds to the latter: an archipelago-like history rather than a chronology, a history where hierarchies are loosened in favor of powerful intuitions and assertions of taste: a history of conviction. This personal way of approaching the history of photography is not, however, a mere (aesthetic and critical) gesture; in Gilles Verneret’s mind, it is about creating a kind of non-authoritarian manual for photography students, a toolbox, a set of reference points.” (Michel Poivert)
