Serge Clément / Zoé Tousignant
Serge Clément is a Quebec photographer who occupies a major place in the field of contemporary Canadian photography. Over the past 40 years, his photographic work has become particularly prominent through photography books. Books have become as essential a means of expression as exhibitions. Archipel revisits the photographer's editorial output through an original work in which portfolios of images taken from some of his books published between 2000 and 2015 make up what could be considered a retrospective.
The six books, judiciously chosen from among some thirty, testify to the photographer's consistent view of the city and the evolution of a unique photographic aesthetic. Archipel is a work of art in itself, consisting of photographs and books reconfigured and rethought from a new perspective.
