Conservatrice
Hélène Samson (Ph.D.) est conservatrice de la collection Photographie du Musée McCord à Montréal (Québec) depuis 2006. Diplômée en histoire de l’art à l’Université de Montréal, elle a réalisé au Musée McCord plus d’une vingtaine d’expositions portant sur l’œuvre de photographes contemporains et du XIXe siècle. Elle est également l’auteure du livre Notman, photographe visionnaire / Notman: 1 Visionary Photographer, Paris, Hazan / Montréal, Musée McCord, 2016, et de plusieurs articles sur l’histoire et la théorie du portrait photographique. Elle s’intéresse maintenant à l’actualisation et à l’exposition des archives photographiques, ainsi qu’à l’histoire technique et sociale de la photographie vernaculaire.

When Michel Campeau discovered several self-portraits on eBay depicting an individual with all the attributes of a photographer, he knew nothing about Rudolph Edse. Fascinated by the images of happiness and the American dream that this amateur photographer had composed with his entire family, Campeau assembled a large collection of images by the former German engineer who emigrated to the United States in the 1950s.
