Sarah Ritter, après avoir étudié la philosophie à Strasbourg, se tourne vers les arts visuels, pour terminer par des études de photographie à l’École nationale supérieure de la photographie d’Arles. Son travail a remporté plusieurs prix, et elle a réalisé plusieurs résidences en France et à l’étranger (Vietnam, Espagne, Finlande). Elle a publié à ce jour trois catalogues de résidence, Tangente, Auprès et Voies. Parmi ses expositions personnelles et collectives, on peut citer « Nos Heures », au Centre photographique d’Île-de-France et à l’Institut français de Freiburg, « Pictures for nothing » au centre d’art contemporain Le Pavé dans la Mare, la Biennale de Mulhouse, les Transphotographiques de Lille, et le festival Voies Off à plusieurs reprises.

La nuit craque sous nos doigts (The Night Cracks Beneath Our Fingers) brings together several years of photography by Sarah Ritter. This first monograph by the photographer is accompanied by an original play by Christophe Fiat, composed on the basis of the photographs in the book.
Sarah Ritter does not work by anticipation, but by “opportunity,” surveying various terrains without knowing precisely in advance what she is looking for. These opportunities allow her to accumulate a number of images that gradually find their place in her work and come together. She seeks a tipping point between the visible, what is shown in the image, and what is not seen. At the heart of this blind intention, the montage of images becomes like a chorus, an affirmation of ambiguity.
