Lettre à Jean-Lin

Marie Liesse / Arnaud  De la Bouillerie

Lettre à Jean-Lin was born out of Arnaud de La Bouillerie's friendship with a blind boy, Jean-Lin Patte. Their friendship was brutally cut short by Jean-Lin's illness, as he fell victim to the same cancer that had robbed him of his sight at the age of one. The story of this friendship and the absence of images to represent it, as well as her photographic experience of childhood, inspired photographer Marie Liesse to work on a project about the birth of this relationship.

The book is designed to be accessible to both sighted and visually impaired readers. The narrative throughout the book is printed in large type, but also transcribed into Braille. The images are printed on separate paper. Visually impaired readers can access the photographs through descriptions transcribed into Braille.
