Utopie Maladrerie

Julie Balagué / Catherine Fiumani / Fanny Taillandier / Renée Gailhoustet / Raphaële  Bertho

The Maladrerie neighborhood in Aubervilliers, Seine-Saint-Denis, is one of the most remarkable achievements in late 1970s urban architecture, designed by Renée Gailhoustet. Moving away from the tired model of high-rise blocks and towers, her architectural experiment in Aubervilliers aimed to change the status of social housing within the urban fabric.

With its futuristic architecture combining concrete, glass, green terraces, and angular shapes, it leaves plenty of room for pedestrian traffic and vegetation.

In 2017, artist Julie Balagué moved there. She went out to meet the residents, passersby, and local associations. Her work combines photographs of the architectural complex with portraits of the residents.

Short poetic texts by novelist Fanny Taillandier, inspired by the testimonies collected by the photographer, accompany the series of images. At the end of the book is a booklet containing two more contextual and theoretical texts by architect Katherine Fiumani and photography historian Raphaële Bertho.

EN CONSTRUCTION

Andrea Keen / Raphaële  Bertho / Christelle KIRCHSTETTER

En construction brings to a close a ten-year cycle of documentary photography workshops on the Artem campus led by the École nationale supérieure d’art et de design de Nancy (ENSAD Nancy). The workshop was directed by photographer and ENSAD Nancy teacher Andrea Keen.
Each year, students documented the evolution of the site and the urban landscape: from the initial demolition phase to the completion of the construction and development program, the aim was to document the evolution of the site. Since 2007-2008, successive classes of students have taken turns to continue and contribute to this mission, which has now spanned a decade.

Paysage temps

Thierry Girard / Raphaële  Bertho / Danièle Méaux / André Micoud

Paysage temps is the culmination of 20 years of photographic observation of the landscape in the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park. The book presents both sides of the observatory's approach. On the one hand, there is the artistic dimension of Thierry Girard's work, presented through a portfolio of unique images that invite readers to discover this emblematic rural region. On the other hand, there is a collective reflection on the current and future challenges facing the observatory as a tool for understanding, analyzing, and forecasting in order to better control the evolution of our landscapes, which is inextricably linked to the evolution of our lifestyles.

The texts by Raphaële Bertho, Danièle Méaux, and André Micoud offer different approaches and fields of analysis of Thierry Girard's work and the challenges facing the observatory.
