Patrícia Almeida
Formée en Histoire à la Universidade Nova de Lisbonne et en photographie au Goldsmiths College à Londres, son travail explore le langage de la photographie documentaire comme territoire de recherche et de création artistique. Après avoir d’abord réalisé des travaux qui questionnent la relation de l’individu avec l’espace urbain, elle s’intéresse à partir de 2011 aux usages de la photographie dans un contexte politique et biographique (Ma vie va changer, 2015). Dans ses expositions coexistent fréquemment divers médiums : photographies, textes, affiches, journaux, vidéos et projections de diapositives. Ces projets étaient par ailleurs très souvent pensés comme livre ou publication d’artiste. En 2011, elle fonde la maison d’édition GHOST avec David-Alexandre Guéniot.

Starting in 2016, Portuguese photographer Patrícia Almeida began collecting documents on photography. She sorted through examples to show her students, bought second-hand textbooks, and rediscovered her early negatives. She planned to write a book about her personal history of photography. A few months later, Patrícia died, leaving her project unfinished.
On the day of her death, the funeral director asked David-Alexandre Guéniot, the photographer's partner, for a portrait for the wake. “Her last photograph,” he thought at the time...
Patrícia's project was revived, but in reverse. It was about telling a story starting from the end. A story that combined photographic research with an intimate account of grief.
