Starting in 2016, Portuguese photographer Patrícia Almeida began collecting documents on photography. She sorted through examples to show her students, bought second-hand textbooks, and rediscovered her early negatives. She planned to write a book about her personal history of photography. A few months later, Patrícia died, leaving her project unfinished.
On the day of her death, the funeral director asked David-Alexandre Guéniot, the photographer’s partner, for a portrait for the wake. “Her last photograph,” he thought at the time…
Patrícia’s project was revived, but in reverse. It was about telling a story starting from the end. A story that combined photographic research with an intimate account of grief.
