Indian Time

Elena Perlino

Elena Perlino created Indian Time during several trips to the border

between Quebec and Labrador, in the Innu and Naskapi communities between Natashquan, Mani-Utenam, Matimékush-LacJohn, Kawawachikamach, and Sheshatshiu.

Through the photographer's lens, readers are invited to travel through breathtaking landscapes and experience the daily lives of the inhabitants of these regions, which have been so profoundly marked by Quebec's contemporary history. She shared this other time.

"Indian Time is a very common expression in Innu communities. It means, ‘Slow down, there's no need to rush, relax...’ 'White people eat according to their watches, Indians eat according to their hunger,' said an elder from La Romaine in the 1950s. Knowing how to wait for the right moment is essential..." (Lucien McKenzie)

Paris Goutte d’Or

Elena Perlino

Elena Perlino, an Italian photographer who recently moved to Paris, immersed herself in a neighborhood in the 18th arrondissement well known to Parisians: La Goutte d'Or.

It is one of the capital's most vibrant areas, characterized by a cultural mix where more than thirty different ethnic groups live side by side. A small area with a population of around thirty thousand.

Elena Perlino lived and shared the daily lives of the inhabitants of La Goutte d'Or, getting up close and personal with them in both public and private spheres. From homes to mosques, hidden places to small shops of all kinds, wedding celebrations to large religious gatherings.
